In 2018, the Port of Næstved's cargo turnover set a new record with 585,000 tons. This is according to Sjællandske Næstved. "The figure is not yet finalized and may increase further, but it is gratifying to see more activity at the port," says the chairman of the port committee, Kristian Skov-Andersen (V), to SN.dk. Compared to 2017, freight volumes to and from the Port of Næstved have increased by 165,000 tons. This means that the port has recovered since the financial crisis in 2009, when cargo turnover was around 300,000 tons, according to the figures. The figures are published at the same time as the municipality on Friday received the long-awaited report on what it will cost to move the port to the industrial area Ydernæs at the end of the canal. The report was prepared by the Port of Næstved and is not yet publicly available. The Danish Port s Association is pleased with the new figures from the Port of Næstved: "This is in line with the development we see in many places across the country. The ports are in an excellent development around Denmark, where they are important hubs and starting points for local growth and employment, and it is nice to see that we start 2019 with good news," says Tine Kirk Pedersen, CEO of Danish Ports.
