EU calls for major investments in ports

February 12, 2013
EU push for clean shipping imposes high costs on ports In the submitted proposal, all 22 Danish seaports included in the TEN-T network:

  1. Establish onshore power supply by 2015, provided it is cost-effective and has environmental benefits
  2. Install publicly accessible LNG refueling stations for maritime transport by 2021 - without exception.

Danish Ports has some doubts about the approach. Imposing LNG infrastructure in all TEN-T ports may in some cases result in unused or loss-making facilities. LNG investments should be developed in ports where it makes sense and where there is a demand to avoid disproportionate costs.
