Payment Order - payment for control of feed, food, animals, etc.

June 22, 2017

The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration will increase inspection fees by 300% The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration will amend the payment order so that inspection fees for imported feed and food will be increased by up to 300%. Danish Ports has submitted a consultation response to the agency, which explains the consequences of the large tax increase. Deterioration for the economy and the environment The change in the payment order applies to inspection fees on imports of feed and food from third countries into the EU. Therefore, Danish Ports argues that an increase in the inspection fee in Denmark will mean that the Danish ports will be chosen in favor of another EU country. This will not only mean a decline in the economy of the individual port and associated jobs, it will also mean that a larger part of Denmark's feed and food consumption will be imported through a port in one of Denmark's neighboring countries, where the inspection fee is lower, and then transported on trucks across the Danish border. Danish Ports' environmental consultant, Kasper Ullum, says that such a significant increase in inspection fees for feed, food and animals could have consequences for both Danish companies and the ports' economy, but also for the environment since a larger part of transport will now be carried out by trucks. Danish Ports has therefore expressed in its consultation response that the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration should reconsider the consequences of such a drastic increase in fees.
