Provincial ports get cruise boom

If estimates hold, the eight cruise ports outside Copenhagen will receive more than 430,000 cruise tourists in 2023.
Aarhus, Skagen, Aalborg, Fredericia, Kalundborg, Hundested, Elsinore and Rønne will be visited by 230 cruise ships in 2023 and it is estimated that around 430,000 happy tourists will be affected. Wonderful Copenhagen and Avisen Danmark report.
That's more than twice as many tourists as in the record year 2019, before Corona shut down everything, not least cruise tourism.
At that time, Copenhagen was the main port of call and attracted many tourists. But the war in Ukraine has now made the Baltic less attractive for American cruise lines, which cannot call at St Petersburg in Russia, which together with Copenhagen have been top destinations.
This year, Copenhagen can look forward to 289 calls. That's 59 fewer than in 2019, but still a high number that could change to more.
A number of provincial ports have been working hard for years to increase the number of calls, and this work now seems to be crowned with success.
