Prop in the Limfjord for one month in 2016

BaneDanmark will close the Limfjord Bridge for 35 days in the late summer of 2016. The bridge must be repaired, but it is obviously not conducive to short sea shipping that ships cannot pass through the Limfjord for a period of time. The smaller ports in the western part of the Limfjord have enough challenges. It is a vulnerable market, where the 6 ports together have a freight turnover of approx. ½ million tons per year. A market that is difficult to regain if lost due to a bridge closure. In addition, there are many recreational vessels that pass through the bridge. Banedanmark has announced in a consultation that they plan to close the passage under the Limfjord Bridge for 35 days in the late summer of 2016. Danish Ports are pleased that Banedanmark is so early with the consultation. Therefore, it was hoped that it would reassess its maintenance plan and see if it is possible to find times when passage will still be possible in all cases for commercial traffic. However, Banedanmark has refused to do so on the grounds that the entire machine has to be removed. Too bad that it was not fixed in the year when the bridge was not "whole". It is important that shipping, ports, logistics companies and cargo owners are given the opportunity to be heard in connection with restricted access conditions. This applies not only in the Limfjord, but everywhere at some of Denmark's many bridges. Although it is necessary to maintain bridges etc., it is sometimes difficult to see what alternative options the ports have to maintain their activities. See Danish Ports' consultation response here.
