Press release - Ports can boost Finance Act 2016
Press release - Ports can boost Finance Act 2016 Director Gitte Lillelund Bech, Danske Havne Source: Danish Parliament "You can't spend the money before it's there," said Minister of Transport and Building Hans Christian Schmidt at a consultation in the Danish Parliament on Thursday.
- "The Finance Act 2016 has now been launched, and Minister of Transport and Building Hans Christian Schmidt promised at three consultations in the Danish Parliament that when the Finance Act 2016 is in place, he will quickly convene the parliamentary parties to negotiate the distribution of the money that is available. So it's now!" says Director Gitte Lillelund Bech, Danish Ports Association.
At the consultations in the Transport Committee and the Rural Areas Committee, all parties agreed that Port Package 3 should be implemented quickly. The DKK 112 million was allocated two years ago, but has not yet been allocated to specific projects. This can be done now. Port Package 3 will provide stronger and safer roads to the ports. This is important, because 80% of Denmark's foreign trade passes through the ports, and every fourth truck trip is connected to a port. In addition to the DKK 112 million that the state should provide, the port municipalities are prepared to contribute around DKK 145 million, and the ports are ready with around DKK 50 million. In total, just over DKK 300 million for construction tasks in rural areas. Government investment will thus be boosted three times over.
- "But there are also other initiatives that can make ports, companies and the whole of Denmark richer and better," says Gitte Lillelund Bech.
- "It is positive that the government in the announced growth plan will remove, for example, the shore protection line at ports, because it is necessary to remove unnecessary regulation and simplify rules to ensure that Danish ports have equal competitive conditions compared to neighboring countries."
- "The Danish Ports Association diligently reports burdensome and outdated rules to the ministries. And we expect the administration of the many rules for emergency preparedness, maritime security, transport, environment, nature and planning to put companies and ports in the "customer's chair", rather than administering in the columns that the ministries are used to."
