After the municipal elections in 2017, there has been a change in the Danish port boards across the country. In this connection, the trade organization for the Danish commercial ports, Danish Ports, hosted a seminar where the new port boards met with each other and with the trade organization, as well as being introduced to the future work in the commercial ports. A total of 37 representatives from the Danish commercial ports gathered at the Danish Ports Association's seminar for new board members on February 26 at Hindsgavl Slot. "There is great interest in joining the port board around the country. It is a board, in the public and private field of tension, and often the port means a lot for the city locally, both in terms of business, urban development and jobs. business, urban development and jobs" says Bjørn B. Christiansen, Director of Danish Ports. At the seminar, participants were introduced to how board members can contribute to the strategic management of a port, as Kirsten Schmidt, CFO of Grenaa Port A/S, reviewed the port's own strategy documents and the processes behind them. The legal framework conditions in the Port Act and the role of board members were reviewed by Frans Bennetsen, lawyer at Kirk Larsen & Ascanius. "The Ports Act is a 'sector law' for the Danish commercial ports. The Act limits and expands in various ways the way in which the ports can organize themselves and carry out activities in relation to what would otherwise apply under the 'municipal authority' and 'company law' explains Frans Bennetsen and continues "it is a necessity for the board members to know the framework legislation that applies to the activities at the port before starting the strategy work". The seminar was concluded by Randi Ib, Director of Board Governance, who went into depth on ownership strategies for the ports and competencies in boards.
