New report from the AE Council shows that shipping is holding its shape

Blue Denmark manages to maintain employment and increase productivity despite difficult global market conditions. This is the conclusion of a new report from AE-Rådet, prepared for the Danish Maritime Authority. The new report, which the AE Council has prepared for the Danish Maritime Authority, shows, among other things, that Blue Denmark overall is strong in the Danish economy. The Danish economy is generally doing well, while most maritime markets are still challenged. Therefore, it is remarkable. Danish ports have been challenged by the financial crisis, and freight volumes have not yet reached previous levels. Despite this, the ports have lifted themselves out of the financial crisis. Since the financial crisis, they have been extremely entrepreneurial and found new markets. This picture is confirmed by the ports' financial benchmark and the catchment area analyses made by CRT and SDU, says Bjørn B. Christiansen, Director of Danish Ports. Blue Denmark consists of all maritime companies in Denmark, including ports, equipment manufacturers, oil and gas, shipyards and maritime auxiliary companies. Together, this maritime cluster employs approximately 60,000 people directly, while indirect employment adds up to approximately 95,000 people. This corresponds to 3.7 percent of total Danish employment, according to the report. Overall, the Blue Denmark contributed almost 25% of total Danish exports in 2016.
