New offshore wind farm in the Kattegat - good for climate and jobs

A broad majority of parties have signed a new climate agreement that includes a new 1 GW offshore wind farm at Hesselø in the Kattegat. The wind farm will be completed in 2027.
Port of Grenaa CEO Henrik Carstensen welcomes the decision.
"We have worked energetically to ensure that one of the next offshore wind farms would be located in the Kattegat. We have seen that Hesselø in the Kattegat is a good choice for the location of a new offshore wind farm. It is relatively cheap to build and operate - and good in terms of nature and the environment. At the same time, it creates good jobs in the center of Denmark."
Henrik Carstensen refers to the latest screening carried out by COWI for the Danish Energy Agency. It showed that Hesselø came out as the cheapest in terms of both investment costs and operation. At the same time, Hesselø is a great opportunity to get started a little faster - compared to the energy islands. This will benefit the climate.
"The Port of Grenaa is ready to be part of this exciting project and looks forward to engaging in a dialog with the bidders. We have the expertise from Anholt Offshore Wind Farm and therefore also have the infrastructure at our disposal. This is good news for our region. We know from Anholt that the installation of a new offshore wind farm creates thousands of new jobs."
As one of Denmark's largest commercial and industrial ports, the Port of Grenaa has gained recognition both nationally and internationally as a professional wind turbine port. The port is contacted by countries around the world who want to benefit from the extensive know-how that the Port of Grenaa has built up as a base and service center for wind turbine projects, including during the installation of the Anholt Offshore Wind Farm.
