Cruise passengers and crew spent 35 million in Skagen in 2018

Cruise guests and crew generated a turnover of DKK 35.1 million in Skagen in 2018, according to a new analysis.
Cruise guests in Skagen spent an average of DKK 508 each on tours, shopping, food and drink and transportation. Of the DKK 508, guests spent an average of DKK 146 on tours, while DKK 362 was spent on shopping and dining. 63,544 cruise guests visited Skagen in 2018, corresponding to a total spend of just over DKK 32 million. The crew spent an average of DKK 98 each, primarily on food and souvenirs. 28,900 crew members went ashore and spent DKK 2.8 million in Skagen.
- We are very pleased with the result of the analysis, which shows that cruise activity contributes significantly to the local economy. The bookings for the coming years are very positive, so we expect to be able to bring additional income to the local community in the future, says Willy B. Hansen, CEO of the Port of Skagen.
The results come from an analysis that the Port of Skagen has commissioned from the internationally recognized analysis agency G.P. Wild. They have analyzed the cruise guests' satisfaction with Skagen as well as the guests' and crews' consumption during the calls. Skagen received a total of 44 cruise calls in 2018, and the results of the analysis are based on 10 cruise calls by both large mainstream ships and smaller and more luxurious ships.
Guests enthusiastic about Skagen
The analysis shows that guests were very enthusiastic about all aspects of their visit to Skagen. 69 percent were even extremely satisfied. On a scale of 1-5 with 5 as the highest, Skagen scored the guides 4.5, the service in shops and restaurants 4.4, the friendly people of Skagen 4.4, and the sights 4.1. Skagen was rated on 11 parameters, and the overall experience of the visit gave a score of 4.1.

67 percent of guests participating in the analysis were from the UK, 16 percent from Australia and New Zealand, 13 percent from the US and 4 percent from the rest of the world. The average cruise guest in 2018 was 63 years old. 98 percent of the guests visited Skagen for the first time.
Almost all - 98 percent of the participants went ashore in Skagen during the visit. 55 percent spent 3-4 hours ashore and 27 percent spent 5 or more hours. 67 percent of the guests would recommend others to visit Skagen and 32 percent expect to come to Skagen again on their own.
