Draft Bill on Railways

A new draft of the Railway Act makes the law more transparent, but Danske Havne is calling for modernization so that the combination of ship and rail can be expanded. According to the European Commission, 30 percent of freight transport on routes longer than 300 km should be carried out by ship or rail. Danish ports have a stake in and expertise regarding intermodal transport and intermodal terminals. A new draft railway law makes the legislation clearer and more user-friendly. However, Danish Ports is calling for modernization so that the combination of ship and rail can be expanded. Ports have had positive experiences moving away from government-regulated tariffs. It should be further examined whether combined transport terminals could also strengthen their competitiveness by following the same path. See Ports of Denmark’s consultation response here.
