More Flexible Rules for the Sign-On and Sign-Off of Seafarers

New rules take into account ports’ obligation to receive seafarers and the possibility of emergency visas. New rules on visa exemptions for seafarers make it easier for seafarers to sign on and off ships in Denmark. Danish Ports, together with maritime organizations, has worked to establish more flexible rules for seafarers. Now that the Ministry of Justice has taken over responsibility for this area, more flexible rules have finally been introduced that account for ports’ obligation to receive ships and provide more flexible handling of seafarers. The regulations will make it easier for shipping companies and seafarers to conduct crew changes in Denmark. This also represents a simplification of regulations that makes calling at Danish ports more attractive.
