Consultation response from Danish Ports to the bill on the Recovery Regulation etc.

November 27, 2024

Danish Ports acknowledges the opportunity to submit consultation responses regarding the bill amending the Nature Protection Act, the Environmental Objectives Act, the Forests Act and the Danish Climate Forest Fund Act (Authorization to adopt supplementary regulations on biodiversity with a view to implementing the Nature Restoration Regulation, changed deadlines for Natura 2000 planning, better opportunities for facilities and construction for outdoor recreation in protected forests, etc.).

Danish Ports has the following significant comments on the bill:

  • When restoring biologically diverse and resilient ecosystems in coastal waters, which are covered by the Restoration Regulation, is initiated, the current and future needs of commercial ports must be taken into account from the outset. It must be ensured that port operations and nature restoration in coastal waters do not conflict with each other. Danish Ports considers it important that this consideration is stated directly in the law. This is crucial, as 75 percent of Denmark's foreign trade is carried out via the ports, which are also the hub for the development of offshore wind in the North and Baltic Seas.
  • When the executive orders are subsequently implemented and the process for designing and implementing restoration in coastal waters is described more precisely, the ports in the area in question must be involved directly and from an early stage.
