Self-governing ports must operate and conduct business in a commercial manner. Therefore, they should also be allowed to be exempted from transparency requirements. Self-governing ports should also be included under Section 4 of the Freedom of Information Act. When politicians require that self-governing ports operate and conduct business in a commercial manner, they should also be eligible for exemptions from transparency requirements. While many other types of publicly owned companies can be exempted, self-governing ports are not among them.
