Invasive species consultation - ballast water

November 10, 2013

Legislative proposals should document materiality and consequences to a greater extent The proposal aims to limit the harmful effects of international trade, including the impact of shipping on Europe's biodiversity and invasive animal species. Danish Ports notes that significant economic consequences are predicted without these being quantifiable. It is of course difficult to relate to these consequences and which parts of the business community will be burdened, but basically also a thin basis for decision-making. At the same time, however, Danish Ports notes that a public monitoring system must be introduced. Danish Ports agrees that this should be a public task, just as the control of measures against the spread of invasive species should also be a public task.
