EU consultation on the EU Transparency Register
As a trade association, Danish Ports is registered in the EU's Transparency Register. This provides easier access to meetings in the EU institutions, access to expert groups, information about consultations and new initiatives, and the opportunity for the EU institutions to contact Danish Ports directly when needed. Danish Ports sees this as very positive. The European Commission is examining the effect of the current Transparency Register of organisations and self-employed persons involved in the formulation and implementation of EU policies, and on the register's future development towards a mandatory scheme that will include the EU Parliament, the Council and the EU Commission. The purpose of the consultation is to propose improvements to the Transparency Register, which is a tool introduced by the EU Parliament and the EU Commission to shed light on lobbying activities aimed at influencing the determination of EU policies. This public consultation has a dual purpose:
- to gather knowledge about how the current transparency register works, and
- to get input into the design of the future mandatory registry scheme, which is included in Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker's political guidelines.
