Port reception facilities

March 5th, 2015

EU: Wastewater is the main challenge, but reporting obligations also cause problems in new guidelines for port reception facilities The European Commission has set up a number of expert groups under the common name European Sustainable Shipping Forum (ESSF). Danish Ports is a member of the expert group on port reception facilities, which met for the first time on February 23, 2015 in Brussels. The overall purpose is to assist the Commission in the revision of the Port Reception Facilities Directive. The terms of reference have three tasks:

  1. Reflect on the current evaluation of the directive and respond to reports from PwC and Panteia,
  2. Reflect on draft guidelines from the Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) and the Commission's transport unit (DG MOVE) and comment on content that lacks definition or causes problems in practice,
  3. Investigate port fees for waste reception to look at a common solution if it proves sustainable compared to national practices.

During the first meeting, point 2 in particular was in focus. In its response, Danish Ports emphasized the challenges with regard to wastewater and municipal differences.
