EU: Consultation on maritime tourism
New EU strategy can be good news for ports that are not part of the TEN-T network Maritime tourism is a good example of the interaction between port, city and hinterland. Several Danish cruise destinations expect growth in the number of both calls and passengers in the coming years. In 2013, Denmark received 434 cruise ships and approximately 900,000 cruise guests. Add to this the ship's staff. The European Commission sets out 14 actions to promote European maritime tourism, of which the following content is of importance to ports:
- Increased dialog between cruise operators, ports and stakeholders
- Waste and marine litter strategy
- Adapting to climate change
- Promote the use of shore power
- Innovative recreation or reuse of existing port infrastructure
