EU: Consultation on the law on the use of the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund
Bill provides information for fishing ports wishing to apply for grants for development projects under EMFF 2014-2020 The purpose of the bill is to create a basis for granting support in Denmark with funds from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund to support the Danish implementation of the EU's fisheries policy in the period 2014-2020, cf. Regulation No. 508/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 15 May 2014 on the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund. Danish Ports has no comments on the bill, which is mostly a tool for the Danish authorities. However, the bill provides good information for fishing ports wishing to apply for grants for development projects under the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund 2014-2020:
- Under investments in fishing ports, landing sites, auction halls and ports of refuge, it is possible to support investments that improve the infrastructure of these sites in order to increase the quality, control and traceability of the products landed, as well as to improve energy efficiency, environmental protection (including marine waste collection), safety and working conditions.
- In relation to storage support, it is possible to support compensation to recognized producer organizations and associations of producer organizations that store fishery products, provided that the products are stored in accordance with applicable rules. Investments in e.g. freezing facilities in fishing ports can be made as a collaboration with a producer organization to highlight a broader purpose and user value.
- It is also possible to support the modernization or establishment of fixed or mobile installations to protect and promote aquatic fauna and flora, such as artificial stone reefs and tree growth close to waterways.
- Efforts to increase employment in geographical areas that are particularly dependent on the aquaculture and fishing industry (fishing areas) have focused on supporting entrepreneurs and making the areas more attractive for settlement, e.g. by creating more cultural offerings and helping to create the necessary service facilities, for example in the small fishing ports.
