Listening response
Danish Ports' response to the consultation on the executive order on Port Pool 2022
Case no.: 2021-016178
Danske Havne thanks you for the opportunity to submit a consultation response to the consultation of
the executive order on Port Pool 2022.
- Danish Ports is pleased that the Danish Government with the Port Pool recognizes the
infrastructural significance of the shipping lanes. We are particularly positive
about the pool model, as it allows flexibility in relation to the development needs of
commercial ports.
- Danske Havne points out that DKK 50 million is a modest amount considering the
necessary investment needs.
Clarifying remarks
Re 1: It is positive that the government supports the expansion of the infrastructure of Danish
commercial ports with the port pool. Access conditions are crucial when a ship has to choose
whether to call at a port in Denmark or in one of our neighboring countries. Therefore, it cannot
be underestimated how important it is that the port infrastructure and access roads to the port
are improved through, for example, dredging and deepening of shipping channels.
Re2: The pool's implementation only modestly improves the possibility of upgrading
port infrastructure and port access infrastructure. The Danish commercial ports are a
crank in the Danish economy, which, together with Blue Denmark, has a turnover of more than
400 billion a year. At the same time, the sea routes are the most climate-friendly mode of freight transport
available. Therefore, we at Danish Ports would like the Port Pool's amount to reflect
the importance of the industry to society to a greater extent, as well as the desire to increase the green
transition.
