Fredericia port expansion finally approved

At today's city council meeting, the Fredericia City Council has approved the planned expansion of the Port of Fredericia. The port expansion of 70,000m2 will be realized by filling the inner basin in the West Port for the establishment of a low-emission container terminal and the establishment of a new RO/RO terminal with shore power facilities. Together, the port expansion ensures growth opportunities, more jobs, increased efficiency and safety, and more sustainable operation of the port. Construction work is expected to begin in August 2023, with the RO/RO terminal expected to be completed in late 2024 and the container terminal in spring 2025.
In 2022, the port expansion has been in public authority processing with two consultation phases. In the development of the project, there has been a very strong focus on developing the best possible solutions for the environment and the surrounding world. As a result of the detailed design and based on comments from the second public consultation phase, a modified quay construction has been developed. This is more gentle on the marine environment because it avoids deepening the seabed, thereby reducing the amount of raw materials that need to be added. The modified quay construction also shortens the pile driving period, which is a more gentle solution for harbor porpoises in the Little Belt, as the noise impact is reduced.
"The port expansion is the result of a formidable collaboration between ADP, Fredericia Municipality and the City Council and committees. The preparation and planning of the largest construction work at the Port of Fredericia since the 1970s has been carried by a constructive and respectful dialog between the municipality, politicians and ADP, where we have listened and adapted to each other in the process. A big thank you to our owners, especially in Fredericia, where we can now begin to future-proof the proud port tradition and create further growth and jobs for the area", says ADP's Chairman of the Board Christian Herskind.
Construction is expected to begin in late summer 2023, and an excited CEO is looking forward to getting started:
"It is several years of planning, regulatory processing and thorough preparatory work that precedes that the project can now begin to take its final form, and a big thank you must go to the political leadership in Fredericia Municipality, which throughout the process has worked with and enabled us in Fredericia to implement a port expansion with broad political support," says CEO of ADP A/S, Rune D. Rasmussen, and continues Rasmussen, and continues;
"As a natural process in the development of the construction project, we have continued to develop the best possible solutions for the environment and the surrounding world. In addition, we have had a constructive and sensible dialog with neighbors, authorities, customers and other stakeholders. Now we are very much looking forward to getting started in August, and we are proud that we, together with the owners, board and partners, can contribute to more growth and greener solutions for the benefit of Fredericia and the entire South Jutland region," concludes Rune D. Rasmussen concludes.
