Which type of company should you choose?
Construction work can be carried out in different types of contract. In a turnkey contract, the contractor is responsible for the overall construction project, including technical advice, while in a specialist contract, the client (the port) has hired an independent technical advisor, and the client has a direct contractual relationship with each individual specialist contractor. It places greater demands on the client to complete a construction project in a trade contract than in a turnkey contract, but it will generally be more expensive to complete a construction project in a turnkey contract than in a trade contract. There are various intermediate forms, including the main contract, where several trades are combined under one contractor. It is not possible to give a comprehensive account of the different forms of construction organization or to establish general criteria for which type of contract is the most suitable.
