Facts about ports

The Port Act prescribes a number of different ways in which ports can organize themselves. Section 6 of the Ports Act states: A port may be organized as:

a state port
A municipal port
a municipal self-governing port
a wholly or partly municipally owned limited liability company
a port organized under private law that is not covered by point 4

The Port Act gives different types of organizations different degrees of freedom. For example, municipal ports have restrictions on the tasks they can perform.

Danish Ports has 45 members. The member ports are divided organizationally with:

15 municipal ports
19 municipal self-governing ports
8 public limited companies
3 ports with other organizational forms (see below)

Freight turnover for members of Danish Ports 2011-2020

Freight turnover will decrease in the period 2011-2020 from 69,245 thousand tons to 64,822 thousand tons in 2020, corresponding to a decrease of 6.5%. Freight turnover is largely based on foreign trade, which is why the development mainly reflects the economic situation on the world market.

**** Nykøbing Falster, Orehoved, Stubbekøbing and Gedser Ports have been merged into Guldborgsund Ports. Therefore, the ports are not calculated separately.

***** LollandErhvervshavne consists of the ports in Nakskov and Rødbyhavn. Therefore, the ports are not calculated separately.

****** The cargo turnover for Helsingør is not calculated separately for Helsingør Selvstyrehavn as a member of Danske Havne.
