There are crowned days in Skagen Harbour.

In 2021, the Port of Skagen will be able to commission its new onshore power plant - Denmark's most flexible. Shore power with the possibility of connecting as many as ten vessels at a time with individual voltage levels and frequencies. An investment of DKK 10 million with sustainability and the green transition in mind.

Skagen Port has experienced a boom in the sale of shore power in 2022. A total of 3.1 million kWh was sold in 2022 compared to 1.6 million kWh in 2021, doubling sales.
Skagen Port has continuously focused on the pricing of shore-side electricity, so that it is not only a sustainable alternative to generator operation, but also an economically attractive offer.
The Port has succeeded in getting many people to use shore-side electricity, but one group of vessels in particular has grown, namely the large pelagic fishing vessels. In the past, the Port of Skagen has not been able to offer shore power to them because it has not had sufficient capacity - voltage levels and frequencies.

Director of the Port of Skagen, Willy B. Hansen says: "It is positive that more and more vessels choose the solution with shore power when they are moored. Noise levels are significantly reduced when vessels are connected to shore power instead of using their diesel engines, while at the same time improving air quality. It is therefore good for both the local area and the environment. It shows that our major investment has paid off."

The good development continues. The Port of Skagen is involved in several EU projects focusing on shore power. Solutions are being worked on for a mobile shore power system where flexibility is paramount, as well as possibilities for connection to shore power in connection with the unloading of pelagic vessels.
