Need for increased cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region

Danish Ports was present at the conference "The future of maritime Safety & Security and Clean Shipping in the Baltic Sea Region", which was held in Brussels on May 30th. The conference was organized by the Maritime Administrations of Denmark and Finland. The agencies from both countries are the coordinators for shipping and safety under the Baltic Sea Strategy. The aim of the conference was to bring together EU politicians, industry and leaders of ongoing EU flag projects to discuss future priorities in the Baltic Sea Region. During the day, various ongoing EU projects were showcased, providing examples of how digitalization and E-Navigation can help ensure more environmentally sound shipping. The conclusion from the conference is that politicians and the industry must focus on:
- Better and more cooperation across the Baltic Sea region
- Increased enforcement of existing environmental legislation, rather than new legislation
- Ensure that maritime education and training can meet the needs of the future - especially the digital transformation, which will also affect ports.
